The clients for 2 MacArthur Place North have asked for a multigenerational household that can be adapted over three decades. Their family consists of a working couple with 1 young child and grandparents from one side of the family.

The Grandparents are retired landscape gardeners but they still have a strong passion for gardening and wish to have a space where they can continue their passion and pass down their knowledge and love for gardening to the younger generation.

The family wish for a compact, adaptable, and environmentally attuned 2 storey residence, with a positive interaction between building and landscape, between indoor and outdoor areas through the creation of a small courtyard and other design strategies to bring light and air flows into the house. They also would like a vertical and horizontal garden/landscape feature in the design and would like to create a contemporary architectural tectonic and living space respectful of its urban and architectural context by complementing the historical built fabric of this iconic heritage precinct of Melbourne.
