PROJECT NAME: Library of Chance Encounters
LOCATION: 126-140 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000
PROJECT TYPE: Public Library, Civic Architecture
MEDIA / MATERIALS / SOFTWARE: Digital Modeling, Rhino 6, Adobe Suite, Enscape, Basic Grasshopper
YEAR OF CREATION: 2021
For this project, I was to design a new public library for the City of Melbourne, to be located at 126-140 Little Bourke Street.
While designing the library, I was to think creatively and critically about the role of the contemporary library
and carefully consider programmatic requirements against this position. The design proposal should have a
clear position on the site, and more broadly, The City. This will include concrete concerns such as access
to light and air, relationships to the existing streetscape and patterns of movement etc.
Some of the programmatic requirements for this project included: Foyer and Lounge Areas, Amenities, Bookshop,
Café, Prayer Room, Service / Back of House Areas, Main Library, Computer Zones, Study Areas, Staff Areas, Public Meeting Rooms and A Lecture Theatre.
