PROJECT NAME: M Pavilion - The Vortex
LOCATION: M Pavilion, Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne VIC 3004
PROJECT TYPE: Pavilion
MEDIA / MATERIALS / SOFTWARE: Digital Modeling, Rhino 6, Adobe Suite, Enscape, Grasshopper
YEAR OF CREATION: 2020
The brief for the project was to design a pavilion in the Queen Victoria Garden where the location is as per the annual M-Pavilion. The pavilion design must fulfil the following criteria:
1. The pavilion must facilitate these activities: an evening quartet concert for an audience of 30 people and a lunchtime seminar with 15 guests + 1 presenter.
2. The pavilion must have a roof to provide shade and shelter for 15 people attending the lunchtime seminar.
3. The pavilion must have a relationship with the ground. How the pavilion touches the ground and interacts with it should be considered. All seatings will need to be integrated into the landscape or pavilion design.
4. Parametric software must be utilised to produce the pavilion, and the design should be self-supporting without the need for additional “external” columns.
5. The pavilion is to be no more than 5 x 5 x 5 meters in volume; this is the maximum volume.
